A Message for College Students

Here I reproduce the text I have contributed to the track team bulletin for the Chukyo University.

Preparation:
Several times during my athletics career, I have experienced moments of breakthrough,in which my performance showed rapid progress through what once seemed to be a wall. Such moments bring great happiness to me.I felt like soaring above the cloud when I am able to do thing I was not able to do previously.I really don’t know where opportunities for the breakthrough come from, but I should always be ready when I see such opportunity.

Rivals:
In track & field, a battle with your rivals is secondary, while an inner-battle within yourself is primary. I think you don’t get satisfaction even if you win the competitions, if you lose the battle within yourself. On the contrary, you can feel content if you win the inner-battle within yourself, even if you don’t win the competitions. The first step in winning an inner-battle within you is to have a time to face yourself at least once a day. This is a splendid and precious moment, during which you won’t even notice the passing of time.

Beginning and the End:
Everything has a beginning and an end. Although both the moment of start and the moment of finish are important, I would like to think that a single incident characterizes how things are in general. Consider the start to the finish of the run, take-off to the landing of the jump, unstable state at the start of throwing motion to the landing of implement. (For me, unstable states characterize the start of everything.) Furthermore, consider the start to the finish of the dairy training, start to the finish of the season, start to the finish of the career and from the beginning to the end of life. I would like to do my best in all.
